 SUMMER SEASON RECAP

This past summer season had some similar storylines as the winter 2008-09 season did.  After week 11 the Suspects had been shut out 3 times, displayed a horrible 2-8-1 record, and were looking up from the bottom of the division.  With just 5 games left in the season, the team started their playoff play early and finished 4-0-1.  With that push and a little bit of luck we were able to finish 6th in the division and enter the playoffs as the bottom seed.

The Suspects started off in the quarterfinals against a stingy Grinders team, who finished 3rd in the division.  The 3rd line of Toth-Tevis-Donnelly came through strong netting 2 of the teams goals, while Rene only allowed 1 goal in 18 shots.  It was on to the semis with a 4-1 win.

The semifinal was against the #2 seed NVIDIA - a team that has a history of having players at the right spots in front of our net.  Forward Rich Borenstein got the hat trick, and Andrew Baine, who was moved from D to O for this game, gets the game winner with :15 seconds left in the 3rd.  Rene also held off NVIDIA's offense, stopping 32 of 35 shots.  Suspects moved on to the final with a 4-3 victory.

The finals was against the top seeded Smell the Glove.  This team has more players in the top 15 in scoring than anyone in the division.  And they came out strong in the first 30 minutes of the game, capturing a 2-0 lead.  However the Suspects would rally late in the 2nd period, tieing the game at 2-2.  In the 3rd period Smell the Glove players committed some costly penalties, and with just over 6 minutes left in the game, Rich Borenstein took advantage, scoring on a 5 on 3 power play.  The teams defense and Rene took care of the rest, and the Suspects won their 3rd championship with the final score of 3-2!!
